Everything Bagel Grilled Cheese (Print Version)

A crispy, golden sandwich layered with cheddar and everything bagel seasoning for a flavorful crunch.

# What You Need:

→ Bread & Dairy

01 - 4 slices sourdough or white sandwich bread
02 - 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
03 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

→ Seasoning

04 - 2 tablespoons everything bagel seasoning

# Directions:

01 - Spread a thin, even layer of softened butter on one side of each bread slice.
02 - Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning generously onto the buttered side of each slice, pressing gently to adhere.
03 - Place two slices butter-side down, layer two slices of cheese on each, then cover with remaining bread slices, seasoned side facing out.
04 - Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
05 - Place sandwiches in skillet and cook 3 to 4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until bread is golden and cheese is melted.
06 - Remove from heat, allow to cool slightly, then slice and serve.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The outside gets impossibly crispy and savory while the inside stays soft and gooey, giving you textural contrast that regular grilled cheese just can't match.
  • Everything bagel seasoning does the heavy lifting flavor-wise, so you don't need to fuss with additions unless you feel like it.
02 -
  • Everything bagel seasoning can burn if your heat is too high, so stick with medium—it gives you that golden crust without charring the seeds.
  • Softened butter is non-negotiable because cold butter tears the bread apart instead of spreading smoothly and holding the seasoning.
03 -
  • Press the sandwich gently while it cooks with the back of your spatula—this helps the bread crisp up and the cheese meld together more evenly.
  • Using a nonstick skillet is genuinely worth it here because the butter and seasoning won't stick to the pan, and you won't be scraping burnt-on bits for twenty minutes afterward.
